Del Monte Foods and Healthier Generation Celebrate San Diego School’s Success with Budget-Friendly Nutrition Program
Del Monte brings easy, healthy canned food recipes to families at Field Elementary—recognized as one of America’s Healthiest Schools
As part of their ongoing mission to improve children’s nutrition and food access, Del Monte Foods and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation partnered with Field Elementary School in San Diego to host a fun, educational event celebrating the school’s national recognition as one of America’s Healthiest Schools in the Food and Nutrition Access category.
The celebration was held during Field Elementary’s Family Friday assembly, where parents, students, and staff joined in a live cooking demonstration using Del Monte® canned fruit to prepare a delicious, budget-friendly snack. This hands-on activity highlighted how affordable and accessible healthier food options can be for families—without sacrificing taste or nutrition.
The event is part of the “Nourishing Families by Nourishing Schools” initiative, a joint effort by Del Monte and Healthier Generation that has already reached over 11.4 million children and families across 13,000+ schools nationwide. The program offers resources, recipes, and tools to help families create easy, nutritious meals at home.
“At Healthier Generation, we believe children learn best when their health and nutrition needs are met,” said Kathy Higgins, CEO of Healthier Generation. “Thanks to our partnership with Del Monte Foods, we’re empowering schools and families with the resources to make that possible—both in and out of the classroom.”
Each family in attendance received bilingual nutrition resources, recipe cards in English and Spanish, and samples of Del Monte® canned products to recreate healthy meals at home.
“Del Monte Foods is proud to support schools like Field Elementary that prioritize health and student well-being,” said Greg Longstreet, President and CEO of Del Monte Foods. “Nutritious food options are key to helping kids thrive both academically and physically, and we’re honored to be part of their journey.”
This San Diego event also marked the closing of the application window for the 2025 America’s Healthiest Schools awards, with winners to be announced this fall. It served as a national celebration of schools across the country working toward healthier, more nourishing learning environments.
Last year, Del Monte and Healthier Generation also hosted a student-led taste test at a Pittsburgh elementary school. Students tried new recipes featuring Del Monte® canned sliced pears and gave feedback, further showing how schools can make nutrition engaging and fun.
