Miami’s Dedication to Community and Well-Being: Embracing Blue Zones Research for Longevity

The highly anticipated 4-part documentary series, “Live To 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones,” made its debut on Netflix this week, taking viewers on a global journey alongside author Dan Buettner. Together, they explore five exceptional communities where longevity is the standard and vibrancy is a way of life.

In the early 2000s, Dan Buettner collaborated with National Geographic to decipher the secrets of longevity. His extensive worldwide quests led to the discovery of places where people consistently live significantly longer lives, giving rise to the concept of “Blue Zones.” These expeditions unveiled Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Ikaria, Greece; Nicoya, Costa Rica; and Loma Linda, California as Blue Zones with the highest concentrations of centenarians. These Blue Zones share common elements such as a plant-based diet, natural physical activity, and a strong emphasis on family, all of which have been proven to promote longevity and overall well-being.

“Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones” invites viewers to embark on a global journey to investigate the diets and lifestyles of these long-living communities. Dan Buettner provides valuable insights into how we can benefit from adopting some of their practices because feeling good as we age is just as important as looking good.

Stephen Watson, Visionary Managing Partner of the Blue Zones Center in Miami, expressed their mission’s commitment to the community by providing access to the series for the youth at The Overtown Youth Center. This gesture aims to broaden horizons and inspire the next generation with global perspectives and the wisdom of the Blue Zones lifestyle.

Tina Brown, CEO of the Overtown Youth Center, expressed her gratitude for this opportunity, emphasizing how it can help the youth understand the world’s cultures and the secrets to a fulfilling life. She praised the partnership’s shared vision of shaping a brighter future.

In a grand celebration of the series, Dan Kodsi, CEO of Royal Palm Companies, illuminated the Paramount Residences in Miami with the words “Blue Zones ‘Live To 100′” as a tribute to the groundbreaking work of Dan Buettner and the Blue Zones team.

Stephen Watson encouraged everyone in Miami not to miss “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones,” urging them to celebrate the wonders of life and the mysteries of longevity together.
