Demand for power efficient semiconductors are on the rise driven by electrification in industry, electro-mobility, rising affluence among consumers. Growing energy demand globally calls for the use of efficient power semiconductors where electrical power is generated, transmitted or used by the consumer. For 2017, industry analyst IHS Markit confirms Infineon Technologies AG as the global market leader for power semiconductors.
Infineon remained the lead and achieved the biggest organic growth across the industry in the overall market. In the sub-market for discretes and modules, IHS Markit confirms once again Infineon took the number one spot for the fifteenth consecutive time. Market share increased and is now doubled the size of the company in second place. In the market for discrete IGBTs, Infineon is now more than three times the size of the next smaller competitor. Infineon made the next big leap in IPMs: its market share increased by 1.4 percentage points — more than all the competitors. Infineon’s IPMs grew almost twice as fast as the market.
