John Di Nino Elected President of ATU Canada

ST. JOHN’S, July 26, 2018 – John Di Nino has been elected the President of ATU Canada, the Canadian arm of the Amalgamated Transit Union, Canada’s largest Transit Union. Di Nino was elected at ATU Canada’s annual convention taking place this week in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

“I will do my best every day to work for our members and strengthen public transit across this great country. The crisis at Greyhound shows the importance of public transit in the lives of millions of Canadians. We will work to make sure that government keeps its promises to Canadians and makes sure that local, regional and interprovincial transit stays strong and affordable for people in all parts of Canada, urban and rural, East and West.”

“I will be reaching out to government at all levels to push for the expansion and extension of safe, reliable public transit in every region of the country. I want to make sure that all transit workers are heard and respected by government – whether they are maintaining municipal transit, driving a school bus or working on coach services.”

Di Nino has been a member of ATU Local 113 in Toronto since 1986, serving as shop steward, and executive board member. He will replace Paul Thorp, who served in the position since 2015.

Di Nino will be joined on the ATU Canada Board by Eric Tuck of Hamilton ON, Travis Oberg of Lethbridge AB, Guy Gosselin of Gatineau, PQ, Jack Johnson of Mississauga ON, Rick Ratcliff of Calgary AB, Jim Yakubowski of Saskatoon SK and Andrew Cleary of Guelph ON.
