Canadians are using mobile devices and web-based applications to access government services more than ever before.
Today, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Seniors announced further improvements to Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security Programs to provide a better, more flexible service experience for Canadians.
After listening closely to what Canadians have told the department they need, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) is making the two retirement income programs more responsive by providing:
- a new integrated application where clients can apply for both Old Age Security pension and the Guaranteed Income Supplement at the same time; and
- a modified application for Canada Pension Plan disability benefits, which has combined eight stand-alone forms into two.
These applications, which have simplified instructions and are easier to complete, are now available online.
Other e-services available through My Service Canada Account (MSCA) allow:
- Canada Pension Plan clients to request the Child Rearing Provision online;
- Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security clients to change their home address and/or telephone number online, including adding a mobile or work phone number; and
- Employment Insurance clients to register for Alert Me, an optional notification service that sends an email when important new claim information is available.
The Government of Canada is transforming how it develops and delivers services. ESDC’s service transformation is making it easier for Canadians, to access benefits, services, and information how, when and where they want to.
“We are transforming our service experience to better meet the needs of Canadians. This means giving Canadians the option to complete more transactions online using the device of their choice.”
– The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development
“More and more departments across the Government of Canada, including ESDC, are embracing digital methods and tools to improve how services and products are designed and delivered to Canadians. This means all Canadians, including seniors, have better access to programs that are designed for them.”
– The Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Seniors
