Remaining powerhouse teams look to overtake Tottenham Hotspur and A.C. Milan in the points standings
NEW YORK, Aug. 6, 2018 — The International Champions Cup presented by Heineken (ICC) continued its exciting string of international soccer games this weekend as two of the remaining final U.S. matches were played across the country.
The first U.S. matchup of the weekend took place in the nation’s capital as LaLiga’s Real Madrid took on current Italian champions, Juventus, at FedExField in front of a crowd of 71,597. This explosive game took off with Juventus taking an early lead in the 12th minute after Real Madrid scored an own goal off defender, Dani Carvajal, who deflected a centered ball past his goal keeper, Keylor Navas. The match came to an exciting close with Real Madrid recuperating their early deficit, overtaking Juventus with a goal by winger, Gareth Bael, and two goals by midfielder, Marco Asensio. In what could be a Champions League matchup preview, Real Madrid took the win with a final score, 3-1.
In the second match of the day, Spanish and Italian giants squared off to produce one of the most exciting endings of these 2018 ICC fixtures, with AC Milan defeating FC Barcelona 1-0 with a goal by striker, Andre Silva, at the last moment to claim victory for the Italian side in the 92nd minute. The game was played at the newly built Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The final U.S. match will take place on Tuesday, August 7th at MetLife Stadium, where Real Madrid will take on AS Roma in what is sure to be a high energy match. The 2018 International Champions Cup will conclude on Saturday, August 11th at Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid, where this year’s champion will also be crowned, as Inter Milan is still in contention for the title.
