Government of Canada recognizes the National Historic Significance of the birth of the Dionne quintuplets

NORTH BAY, ON, Aug. 2, 2018  – Mr. Anthony Rota, Assistant Deputy Speaker and Assistant Deputy Chair of Committees of the Whole and Member of Parliament for Nipissing — Timiskaming, will take part in a Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada plaque unveiling ceremony to commemorate the birth of the Dionne quintuplets as an event of national historic significance.

On May 28th, 1934, Yvonne, Annette, Cécile, Émilie, and Marie Dionne were born to a Franco-Ontario family in Corbeil, Ontario. The birth and survival of the Dionne quintuplets in the midst of the Great Depression captured the world’s attention, and the sisters became an international sensation.

Mr. Rota will make the announcement on behalf of the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, Catherine McKenna.
