Social media has been abuzz with discussions about holidaying in Guiyang during midsummer. Numerous visitors have shared photos and suggested various travel routes, highlighting easily accessible waterfalls, expansive cloud-filled landscapes, and serene countryside vistas. Renowned for its pleasant climate and pristine ecology, Guiyang, known as the “Cool Guiyang,” has emerged as the perfect summer travel destination. According to Ctrip, tourism bookings for Guiyang have surged by 70% year over year since July.
In recent years, as economic development has progressed, people’s travel preferences have shifted from merely focusing on ecological and climatic factors to seeking cultural experiences and spiritual fulfillment. The National Summer Tourism Development Report, recently issued by the China Tourism Academy, has pointed out that factors such as the aging population, the growing middle class, and the implementation of the Healthy China strategy have combined to make the summer tourism market and related sectors reach a value between 1.2 to 1.5 trillion RMB.
Leveraging the influence of the “Cool Guiyang” IP brand, the city is strategically utilizing its summer resort and wellness tourism resources to showcase its allure. Simultaneously, Guiyang aims to establish itself as the preferred “home” for seasonal wellness travel and solidify its reputation as a top-notch wellness destination.
Currently, Gui’an is formulating high-quality construction and service standards under the banner of “Cool Guiyang for Travel and Life.” This involves enhancing rural housing, developing supporting facilities, and refining management services. The focus lies on optimizing residential area layouts by revamping the Xiuwen Taoyuan Resort Belt, Xifeng Nanshan Homestay Belt, Qingzhen Hongfeng Homestay Belt, Huaxi Qingqiangao Line, Wudang Yangchang-Baiyi Line, Kaiyang Gallery, and Gui’an Seven Villages.
Beyond Gui’an, Xifeng County in Guiyang boasts its own natural gifts, including a rich red cultural heritage, exquisite orchards, and stunning natural landscapes. It has become a sought-after destination for extended summer vacations. Here, tourists can explore the Xifeng Camp Revolutionary History Memorial Museum to experience the revolutionary era’s faith-driven power, or head to the Wujiang Gorge scenic area to admire towering cliffs on both sides. These are among the destinations tailored by Xifeng to cater to those seeking wellness tours, educational trips, and “migratory bird-style” exploration.
The 2023 Comfort Index of Seasonal Health and Summer Resorts in China ranked Guiyang second out of 76 cities. Looking ahead, Guiyang plans to intensify its efforts in constructing municipal-level showcase spots for summer stays. It aims to guide and develop several demonstration areas to better cater to the diverse and personalized demands of the tourism market.
